Terra Spencer

Nova Scotia

About

Raised on the mud banks of the Avon River, Nova Scotian funeral director-turned-songwriter Terra Spencer was recruited as a backup singer while scooping ice cream at a music festival. She can make you feel knee-to-knee with her in a room of 5 or 500 with her butterscotch vibrato, deft fingerstyle guitar, church bench piano, sly humour, and ‘70s wood-paneled warmth. Nominated for 2024 CFMA Contemporary Singer of the Year, she has performed at many of Canada’s premiere folk festivals, including Mariposa, Mission, Vancouver Island, Deep Roots, and Lunenburg Folk Harbour, with showcases at Folk Alliance International and Reeperbahn. Her startling knack for telling intimate stories caught the attention of Canadian musical mentors and collaborators like David Francey, Dave Gunning, and Matt Andersen. She has become a sought-after studio musician, co-writer, producer, and workshop facilitator. Recently her song “Brick and Mortar” was named the winner of the Commonwealth Song Contest out of 20,000 entries. In 2022 Terra toured across Canada and the UK with Ben Caplan in support of their joint record, Old News, named the 2023 Music NS Folk/Roots Recording of the Year and currently nominated for 2024 CFMA Folk Recording of the Year. She is currently touring with Canadian folk icon David Francey. “The real deal.” – Ron Sexsmith
