About

Emma Stevens, from Eskasoni First Nation (NS), was a musical sensation before graduating high school. Her 2018 debut, ‘My Unama’ki’ became her signature song celebrating the strength and resilience of Mi’kmaq culture in Cape Breton. Stevens’ 2019 release of Paul McCartney’s ‘Blackbird’ garnered international attention. Recorded in Mi’kmaq, the song brought heightened awareness to the United Nations’ ‘Year of Indigenous Languages.’

Stevens has traveled the world to bring awareness to her language and culture including performances across Canada, Nairobi, Kenya, Abu Dhabi, and the UAE where she sang and spoke to leaders and policymakers from around the world.

Stevens has been a tireless voice for missing and murdered Indigenous women, the preservation of her language and culture, and the challenges of Mi’Kmaq youth.
