Dear friends,

We are heartbroken to announce that we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 24th edition of the Stan Rogers Folk Festival, scheduled for July 23 to 26, 2020.

The following were the basis for our decision:

  1. There is a very high likelihood that the isolation measures will stretch into June and beyond.
  2. We believe that the federal and or provincial authorities will mandate that large summer events cancel. It just isn’t practical to expect we will get from total isolation in our homes to a gathering of several thousand festival goers this summer.
  3. Even if isolation measures lift, it is very likely that the public will be very reluctant to gather in large crowds.
  4. Our situation is compounded by the camping nature of the festival. We have several thousand who live on-site in campgrounds for the weekend. We provide washrooms and showers, but do not feel we can meet the public expectation for disinfection and hygiene.

We are confident our funders, sponsors, artists, volunteers and patrons will support this decision and will be on board for an epic 25th Anniversary festival in 2021. We will be celebrating the incredible success of the festival and bringing back many of your favourite artists. Turning this page will also allow us to begin to plan other ways to bring the music to the community we have built over these 24 years. We are already working on an online concert plan, and a community gathering once it is feasible for us to gather again in person.

If you already purchased a ticket for this year’s edition, refunds will be made available. However, we ask you to consider:

Donation:

This situation is devastating for the festival and its parent organization. We must now turn the page and begin to plan for 2021. While there won’t be a festival this year, your help is still critical. We welcome any contributions towards our efforts to “stay the course” and work towards next year. This can include a donation equal to the value of your ticket(s). The festival is operated by a federally-registered charity (Chedabucto Bay Folk Society) and can issue tax receipts for any donation over $25. Deferral:

We would be happy to provide you with a deferral and mail you tickets and camping reservation (if applicable) for 2021 once ticket sales start on October 1st, 2020. For our 25th Anniversary we are planning a “family reunion,” bringing back many of your favourites. If you’d like to “stay the course” with us, let us know at info@stanfest.com or 1 (888) 554-7826.

Refunds:

All ticket-holders will be eligible for a refund if they make a refund request before May 15, 2020 (one month from today). Passes and camping will automatically be deferred to 2021 after that date.

If you purchased your tickets through our Eventbrite page, you can request a refund on your passes and camping through your Eventbrite account. There is also a link to View and Manage your Order under the order summary in your inital confirmation email, where you can make a refund request.
